Jazzanova like a band

For three years the documentary team behind Jazzanova like a band. has accompanied the world-renowned musical collective to record the group’s moving 15-year musical history. At least that was what the Hamburg-based duo freier.eckert, filmmakers and passionate Jazzanova fans, set out to accomplish.

freier.eckert – aka Alexander Eckert und Matthias Feier– are established creators of music videos and commercials. This time their vision is to make a timeless music documentary that visually captures the internationally-acclaimed collaboration of Berlin DJs and music producers, together with artists like Lenny Krawitz, Roy Ayers, Common, Calexico, Hugh Masekela and Incognito. They pose the questions: How can a music collective thrive? How do you manifest your dreams? How do you survive?

 

A film in Dolby SRD, 90 min. Locations: Berlin, London, Rotterdam, Rio de Janeiro, etc.

The global music scene today would be incomplete without Jazzanova’s contribution as DJs, Remixers, Producers, and their Sonar Collective label. Half the members are still active as DJs– astonishingly, they appeal as much to their own generation as to younger listeners. Jazzanova just keep reinventing themselves, touring the world and performing with a live band, and releasing new albums this year.

But the members of the collective aren’t kids anymore, they are over 40 and the circumstances have changed. Working in a collaboration isn’t also as smooth as it used to be.

Our – luckily from freireckert coproduced (big thanks to them, as they have the most work on this project) - documentary will not only showcase their individual music but also the question that confronts many in their generation: Can I make a living doing what I love and – if yes – what obstacles do I have to overcome?

Not only will the music will shake your body but exploring these fundamental questions will move your heart and engage your mind.
